Charter timeline

We are thrilled to receive unanimous approval from the NC Charter School Advisory Board at their September meeting. It is wonderful to have their support for public Montessori in Asheville. Here is an overview of what has already happened, and what to expect next on the road to our approval:

April 29, 2022 – MCPM submitted an application to open a charter school for the 2023-2024 school year.

September 12, 2022 – MCPM Board of Directors was interviewed by the NC Charter School Advisory Board (CSAB) and was unanimously approved. 

September, 2022 – Application moves to the State Department of Education.

Fall 2022 to Early Winter 2023 – MCPM learns if it has obtained final approval to open as a charter school.

Late Winter / Early Spring 2023 – Lottery opens and enrollment begins.

August, 2023 – MCPM opens with a projected 2 primary classrooms, 3 lower elementary classrooms, and 1 upper elementary classroom.

August 2024 and onward – The school expands to include 7th and 8th grade and adds additional upper elementary classes.
