Custodian Job Summary

Mountain City Public Montessori is a tuition-free public Montessori Charter school for children in grades kindergarten through 6th grade in Asheville, North Carolina. We will grow in years two and three to add an Adolescent program. Our mission is to provide equitable access to a high-quality, relevant Montessori education to meet the needs of all students and to strengthen our community. Mountain City Public Montessori is seeking a reliable Custodian to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and maintenance of the school building and grounds. The Custodian will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks to maintain a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff. This position requires someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently. This part time position is 20 hours/week with a salary of $20/hour. Hours are flexible, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities:

• Clean and sanitize classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and other areas of the school building on a daily basis.
• Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, paper products, and other necessary items to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
• Set up and tear down furniture, equipment, and materials for events and activities.
• Ensure the security of the building, including locking and unlocking doors, and monitoring the building for any signs of damage or vandalism.
• Respond to requests from teachers, staff, and administration for cleaning services.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance procedures, chemicals, and equipment.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects, such as furniture and equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must pass a background check test.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time.
• Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
• Ability to work in various temperatures and weather conditions.

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed indoors and outdoors, with exposure to cleaning products. MCPM strives to use environmentally friendly and child friendly cleaning products at all times.
