Instructional Assistant – Lower Elementary (25-26 school year)

Mountain City Public Montessori is a tuition-free public Montessori Charter school for children in grades kindergarten through 8th grade in Asheville, North Carolina. Our mission is to provide equitable access to a high-quality, relevant Montessori education to meet the needs of all students and to strengthen our community. An integral part of our mission as an organization is to operate with a lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Instructional Assistants in the Montessori classroom are key to ensuring that the complex learning environment is prepared for children.  Assistants enable Montessori teachers to focus on instruction without interruption.  The assistant’s broad awareness and scanning of the environment not only protects the teacher’s lessons but also assures that observational data is being gathered continuously, students are navigating the environment appropriately, and concentration is honored. The teacher and assistant’s interactions offer a constant model of grace and courtesy for students to emulate.

MCPM is accepting applications for a multi-age multi-classroom assistant at the lower elementary (grades 1-3) level.  Our Instructional Assistants help ensure fidelity of implementation of the Montessori pedagogy. The primary classroom roles of the assistant are to help prepare the environment, observe and record student work, support procedural autonomy, protect student concentration, and model grace and courtesy.  The Instructional Assistant will also implement the Whole School Montessori method and the Nautilus Approach to discipline by supporting the overall needs of the school, particularly when students are engaged in activities apart from the classroom work cycle. The multi-classroom assistant floats between our three lower elementary classrooms and is our main substitute on call for this age group.
