Mental Health Support (24-25 school year)
Mountain City Public Montessori is a tuition-free public Montessori Charter school for children in grades kindergarten through 7th grade in Asheville, North Carolina. Mountain City Public Montessori seeks a candidate with patience, reverence for children, and a willingness to learn about the Montessori and Nautilus methods. This mental health support is a person with a background in providing any kind of mental health work including: social worker, counselor, OT, OT assistant, Registered Behavioral Tech, etc.
Our Mental Health Support will work closely with one or more students with Individual Education Programs (IEP) or social-emotional needs under the supervision of a licensed Special Education Teacher and/or Related Service Provider. The Support will provide assigned student(s) with the physical, educational and/or emotional support they need to gain full access to the school setting.
Responsibilities
- Deliver social-emotional instruction to children individually and in small groups
- Analyze data to identify student issues, needs, and challenges
- Assist the Social Worker and EC Coordinator in the duties assigned such as assisting students in lessons, providing emotional or behavioral support, and creating and maintaining classroom materials
- Mediate restorative circles with individuals, groups, and families
- Conduct regular observations of all students
- Actively participate in weekly data meetings, observation/feedback meetings, and other developmental meetings throughout the year

- Willingness to train with the Montessori Coach in philosophy and materials
- Has had experience working in education, preferably in a public setting
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Relevant experience working with children
Salary and Benefits
Mountain City Public Montessori’s compensation philosophy is to pay competitively as compared to the surrounding LEAs to ensure the ability of our staff to live and thrive in our community. This position is a 1099 contracted position and does not include benefits or payroll taxes. Mountain City Public Montessori is committed to internal pay equity throughout our organization. All staff members are equipped with the tools needed to succeed, including relevant and quality professional development, email, and all necessary supplies. Salary will be paid hourly with rate determined by years of experience. Rate starts at $25 per hour. Part time hours are approximately 8am to 12pm.
