School Counselor (Part time)

Mountain City Public Montessori seeks to hire a school counselor who is a certified/licensed educator who will improve student success for ALL students by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program.  A school counselor at MCPM School will work to maximize student success, promoting access and equity for all students. As vital members of the school leadership team, school counselors create a school culture of success for all.  The school counselor will help all students apply academic achievement strategies, understand and manage emotions, and apply interpersonal skills to support a peaceful and collaborative school environment. The MCPM School Counselor will serve as the Nautilus lead and will be responsible for training staff on this unique approach to behavior management and discipline. Nautilus training will be provided by MCPM in collaboration with Public Montessori in Action International.

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree in school counseling 
• NC Professional School Counselor license
• Two or more years experience in a public school setting

Responsibilities include providing:

• Individual student academic planning and goal setting
• Classroom guidance lessons based on the needs evidenced by a needs assessment
• Short-term individual counseling for students
• Referrals for long-term support
• Collaboration with families/teachers/ administrators/community for student success
• Advocacy for students at individual education plan meetings and other student-focused meetings
• Data analysis to identify student issues, needs, and challenges
• Acting as a systems change agent to improve equity and access, achievement and opportunities for all students
• Support in connecting families to community resources
• Facilitation of small counseling groups for students based on a shared need
